Auroras Glow Above Earth at Night | ISS Timelapse in 8K (Aug 2, 2026)

Watch auroras glow above Earth’s curved horizon in this nighttime 8K timelapse. Created from 2,842 sequential photographs captured from the International Space Station on August 2, 2026, the video follows shifting curtains of light above the dark planet below. Keep an eye on the clouds and the surface. You may spot flashes of lightning or clusters of city lights beneath the aurora. These photographs were captured during Expedition 75, which began on July 26, 2026. Seven crew members were aboard on August 2: commander Jessica Meir; NASA astronauts Jack Hathaway and Anil Menon; ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot; and Roscosmos cosmonauts Andrey Fedyaev, Pyotr Dubrov, and Anna Kikina. Meir, Hathaway, Adenot, and Fedyaev arrived aboard SpaceX Crew-12 on February 14. Menon, Dubrov, and Kikina arrived aboard Soyuz MS-29 on July 14. As this timelapse was being photographed, the crew was preparing for a series of August spacewalks. The first, planned for August 6, would prepare the station for another roll-out solar array. Expedition 75’s work also includes research into crew health, exercise in microgravity, bioprinting, and how materials burn in space.
