On 23 September at 02:04 CEST, as the Sun crosses the equator, day and night become almost equal in length across the planet. In the Northern Hemisphere, autumn begins, while in the Southern Hemisphere, spring arrives. From space, MTG-I1 captured this moment of balance as the day-night boundary, known as the terminator line, stretched from pole to pole.
