Ever heard of dust devils on Mars? 🌪️

These swirling whirlwinds form when the Sun heats the Martian surface, causing air to rise and lift dust into the atmosphere. Some can grow up to 8 km high and reach speeds of 45 m/s. Luckily, our Mars Express spacecraft is uniquely equipped to spot them. 🛰️ To create one image, Mars Express combines pictures taken one after another by nine different channels. If something moves between shots, such as a dust devil, it appears out of place against the surrounding landscape, making it easy to spot.
